Across the board, we know cost is a concern for our Patients, so as part of bringing our #equalaccess mission to life, we’re taking you through some practical considerations for budgeting and pricing for your alternative therapies journey.
Clinic consultations
Patients here in Australia could feel overwhelmed with the influx of new alternative therapies providers joining the market, and some offering enticingly or even free consults. Getting specialised advice from an experienced prescriber (whether they are your GP or a specialist clinic Doctor), but you want to consider the quality of ongoing care with low-cost or free clinics, and strike the delicate balance between value and service. Check reviews, do your research and discuss any cost concerns you have with a clinic team prior to making your first booking.
Product costs
The cost of alternative therapies can vary significantly depending on the type and form of the medication, with some being more expensive than others. Always discuss your budget up front with your prescriber, and before you close out the consult or follow-up, ask them to detail what they are prescribing you, the itemised costs and total cost – this way, there’s no surprises when you order.
Insurance
Some private healthcare providers may cover alternative therapies costs, either directly or related (such as accessories). Speak to your insurance provider about what’s possible with your plan, and how this may impact what costs you can recover from your yearly alternative therapies costs.
Plan your purchases
Not every Patient will need to use more than one prescription product at a time, so you may be able to stagger your orders when purchasing your medicine. Chat to your Doctor about your intended order, ask for suggestions to save on costs with how and when you order, and utilise a tracking journal to monitor how quickly you’re running low on medication.
Compassion program & products
Ask your clinic and/or Doctor if they provide any compassionate access ranges of alternative therapies, priced accordingly, and explore if you qualify for other access schemes to support your journey and make it more affordable.
Managing your health requires you to prioritise your health, but also balance the associated costs effectively. Stay informed of your budget, plan ahead and keep in consultation with your clinic and Doctor team to ensure success now and long-term.
